Team Marcia is a running club that is a member of the Road Runner's Club of America.  Its name was inspired by one of the members' battles against Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.  Members of the running club are on a mission to raise money to benefit Alzheimer's research so future generations are not afflicted with this awful disease.

ABOUT TEAM MARCIA AND A LETTER FROM MIKE NAPOLI, THE EVENT ORGANIZER

I would like to thank everybody who has supported the Branchburg Race Against Alzheimer’s 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.  All proceeds raised from the event benefit Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, a 501 C-3 nonprofit organization.  100% of donations received by this organization will go to Alzheimer’s Disease research.  Last year's event raised over $58,900 in support of Cure Alzheimer's Fund to benefit Alzheimer's Disease research.

Many of you are familiar with this terrible disease, and may even have an elderly relative or friend afflicted with Alzheimer’s.  Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death, but for women, it is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the US that cannot be prevented, cured, or even slowed.  Cure Alzheimer’s Fund highlights some scary statistics about the disease. “Every 67 seconds, another American gets Alzheimer’s disease.  Worldwide, 35 million people currently have the disease and if we do nothing that number will skyrocket to 115 million by 2050.”  While Alzheimer’s typically affects the elderly, there are people in their 40s and 50s who are diagnosed with the disease.  Unfortunately, my friend Riley and her family are dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease. Riley’s mom, Marcia Stanford, was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease, and the family is courageously coping with the changes the disease has brought.

Marcia is the inspiration for the Branchburg Race Against Alzheimer’s 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. When I decided to get involved in a fundraising effort to benefit Alzheimer’s research, a running event seemed like an appropriate way to honor Riley’s mom.  Marcia has dedicated her life to health and fitness and been an avid runner in a family of runners.  In addition, running is a shared interest between the Stanfords and me.  Thanks again for your support of the event!  Together we can raise money to help fight Alzheimer’s Disease.
